Smart Home & CCTV
Smart home kit is only as good as its installation. A camera that drops off the wifi, a doorbell that chimes twenty seconds late, smart lights that need three apps — that’s what happens when it’s plugged in rather than properly installed. We design, wire and configure smart home and security systems across Bury St. Edmunds and Suffolk that actually work — and we hand them over set up on your phone, not in a box of manuals.
Smart and secure, done properly
Smart lighting & controls — dimming, scenes and schedules; wired correctly so switches still work like switches
CCTV & security cameras — wired systems for reliability (with honest advice on where battery/wifi cameras are and aren’t good enough), positioned for real coverage
Video doorbells — powered properly, so they respond instantly instead of when they feel like it
Home automation — heating, blinds and appliances tied together sensibly
Smart thermostats — installed and wired to your heating system correctly
Brand-agnostic, wired where it matters
We fit what suits your home and budget, and we’ll say plainly when a cheaper option is the smarter buy. Wired where it matters — permanent cameras and doorbells work best with permanent power. And configured before we leave: apps installed, alerts tuned so you’re not pinged by every passing cat, recordings storing where you want them, and a walkthrough so you’re in control of your own system.
One straight note on CCTV: cameras covering your own property are fine; pointing them at a neighbour’s garden or the street brings privacy obligations. We position cameras to keep you effective and on the right side of that line.
Three sensible starting points
A properly-powered video doorbell, two wired cameras covering the approaches, and PIR-controlled outside lighting — the biggest security lift for the least complexity.
Smart lighting scenes in the rooms you live in, a smart thermostat wired correctly to your heating, and schedules that make the house feel lived-in when you’re away.
A wired backbone — network points, PoE camera runs, smart switching throughout — usually done alongside a rewire or renovation, when the wiring costs a fraction of retrofitting.
Future-proof while the walls are open
If you’re renovating, extending or rewiring, that’s the moment to run the boring cables that make everything else easy for the next twenty years: network points to the TV and office, PoE runs to camera positions (even if you don’t fit cameras yet), and neutral-at-the-switch wiring that keeps every smart-switch option open. It’s the cheapest future-proofing in the trade, and the thing owners most often wish they’d done.
The most common smart-home complaint isn’t hardware — it’s juggling apps that don’t talk to each other. Before we fit anything we’ll ask what you want to control from one place, and choose kit that integrates (or bridge what you already own) so the system converges rather than sprawls. If full integration isn’t realistic on your budget, we’ll say so up front rather than leave you to discover it.
