Emergency Electrician & Fault Finding
Electrical faults don’t keep office hours. Whether it’s a fuse board that won’t stop tripping, half the house without power, or a burning smell you can’t place, we offer 24/7 emergency call-outs across Bury St. Edmunds and Suffolk — and we’re straight with you about what’s wrong, what it costs, and what can wait.
What counts as an electrical emergency?
Call us any time for:
Total or partial power loss — that isn’t a supplier outage
A fuse board (RCD) that keeps tripping — and won’t reset
Burning smells, scorch marks or buzzing — from sockets, switches or the fuse board
Exposed or damaged wiring — after DIY, damage or wear
Water near electrics — leaks into light fittings, sockets or the consumer unit
No hot water or heating — because of an electrical fault
If something is sparking, smoking or burning, switch off the power at the consumer unit if it’s safe to reach, and call 999 if there’s any sign of fire. Then call us.
What we do when we arrive
- 01Make it safe
First and always. Isolate the dangerous circuit so your home is out of harm’s way.
- 02Find the fault
Systematic testing, not guesswork. Tripping circuits, dead sockets and nuisance faults all have a cause; we trace it.
- 03Explain and quote
What’s wrong, what it needs, and what it costs — before any repair work starts.
- 04Fix it
Where possible, the same visit. If parts are needed, we make safe and return fast.
The faults we see most
Tripping RCDs (often a single faulty appliance or circuit), dead circuits from loose connections, damaged cables from DIY or rodents, overloaded circuits in older homes, and ageing fuse boards that can no longer cope. Many “emergencies” trace back to an installation overdue an EICR or a fuse board overdue an upgrade — we’ll tell you honestly if that’s the underlying cause.
Local and genuinely 24/7 — you call the person who turns up. NICEIC registered and insured, with honest diagnosis: we fix the fault in front of us and won’t invent extra work. Several of our reviews are from exactly these jobs — short-notice call-outs sorted quickly.
Safe checks you can make
Two minutes of checks can save you a call-out fee. First: do your neighbours have power? If they’re off too, it’s a network outage — call 105 (free, any supplier) rather than an electrician. Second: if your RCD has tripped, unplug whatever you used last, then try resetting the switch once — a single faulty appliance causes a surprising share of “emergencies.” If it trips again, stop and call us: repeated resetting of a genuinely faulty circuit is how small problems become dangerous ones. What we’d ask you never to do is open the consumer unit, touch damaged cable, or work on anything live.
Most electrical emergencies give warnings first — the occasional trip, a warm socket, lights that flicker when the kettle’s on. If tonight’s call-out traces back to an ageing fuse board or an installation that’s overdue an inspection, we’ll say so plainly and quote the proper fix separately. No pressure on the night; just the honest picture, so the next emergency doesn’t happen. Landlords and businesses: an up-to-date EICR is the cheapest emergency prevention there is.
