Lighting

Lighting is the fastest way to change how a home or business feels — and one of the most common jobs in our reviews, from single statement fittings to full garden schemes. Whether you want a chandelier hung properly, a kitchen that finally has light where you chop, or a garden you can use after dark, we design and install lighting across Bury St. Edmunds and Suffolk that’s beautiful, efficient and safe.

Lighting
What we do

From one fitting to a full scheme

  • Indoor & feature lighting — pendants, chandeliers, downlights, under-cabinet kitchen lighting, bathroom lighting (properly rated for wet zones)
  • Lighting design — layout, layering and switching planned with you: task light where you work, warmth where you relax, controls that make sense
  • Garden & outdoor lighting — patios, paths, borders and trees; colour-change options; all wired with outdoor-rated cable and protection, not an extension lead out the window
  • Security & flood lighting — PIR-controlled lighting that deters rather than dazzles
  • Commercial & emergency lighting — offices, retail and workspaces, including compliant escape-route lighting
  • LED upgrades — replace halogen and fluorescent fittings; lower bills, less heat, longer life
Why have an electrician do it?

Bathroom and outdoor lighting have specific safety requirements (zones, IP ratings, RCD protection) that off-the-shelf DIY often misses. And a scheme designed once — with the right circuits and switching — beats years of working around lights in the wrong places.

Room by room

What actually works

Kitchens need layers: strong even light for cooking (downlights placed over the worktops, not the walkways — the most common mistake), under-cabinet task lighting where you actually chop, and something warmer for the eating end. Living rooms are ruined by a single centre pendant; a mix of wall lights, lamps on switched circuits and a dimmer turns one room into three moods. Bathrooms are regulation territory — fittings must be IP-rated for their zone, which is exactly why bathroom lighting is an electrician’s job rather than a DIY one. Bedrooms benefit from switched bedside circuits and warm colour temperatures; halls and stairs need reliable two-way (or smart) switching and enough light to be safe without feeling like an office.

Outdoors & business

Garden lighting that earns its keep

The best garden schemes follow a few principles: less is more (a few well-placed lights beat a runway); warm colour temperatures flatter brick, timber and planting; light the things worth seeing — a tree, a path, the table — rather than flooding the lot; and keep beams low and shielded so you’re not lighting your neighbour’s bedroom or bleaching the night sky. Everything outdoors gets outdoor-rated fittings, proper cable and RCD protection — the difference between a scheme that lasts fifteen years and one that fails the first wet winter.

For businesses, lighting is usually the fastest-payback electrical upgrade: LED conversions typically cut lighting energy use by well over half, and better light measurably improves retail displays and working environments. A domestic LED upgrade is usually one visit — we survey what’s fitted, recommend replacements that match the light you’re used to (colour temperature matters more than people expect), and swap fittings with minimal disruption. Commercial upgrades are planned around your hours, often in phases so no area goes dark.

FAQ

Straight answers

Yes — layout, fittings, layering and switching planned with you before anything’s drilled.

With LED, pennies — a whole garden scheme typically uses less than one old halogen floodlight.

Of course. We’ll check they’re rated for where you want them (especially bathrooms and outdoors) and fit them properly.

Yes — dimming, scenes and app or voice control.

LED upgrades and emergency lighting are two of the most cost-effective jobs we do for commercial customers.

Usually yes — though LEDs need compatible dimmers, which is exactly the mismatch that causes flicker. We fit the right pairing first time.
